McGrath SmartLocks · Melbourne north

McGrath smart locks, supplied and fitted in Melbourne's north

The Australian-designed, trade-grade range: Ultra-Secua, Kedron, Albion, Hamilton, Grange, Ascot and the rest, fitted to your door and paired to your phone by the same local team that measures it.

Why buy it from a door fitter

The lock is half the job. The fit is the other half.

McGrath make trade-grade smart locks, designed in Australia for Australian conditions: 300,000-cycle tested on most models, sealed to IP65–IP66, with stainless anti-saw bolts on the deadbolts. We are security door installers, so a McGrath lock is not a box we hand you: we measure the door, pick the model that suits it, fit it square, pair it to your phone and set up the screen-door-and-main-door trick before we leave.

Most people find us because they want a security door. Plenty leave with the door and the front door both opening on one fingerprint.

Smart Basic series

McGrath's entry-level range for tighter budgets, in black or silver: A210, A231 and A236 are slimline mortice locks with an 85 mm pitch; NX1 suits a 60/68 mortice; NX5 and NX6 take a tubular latch or 60/50 mortice. Ask us if one of these fits the job better than a trade-grade model.

What moves the price

We quote on site, not over the phone, because the door decides half the job. Four things set the price:

The model

A compact Albion and a fire-rated Hamilton are different locks at different prices.

The door

A clean swap into an existing deadbolt is the quickest job. Cutting a new mortice, or preparing an old timber door, takes longer.

One lock or two

The screen-door-plus-main-door pairing is two locks and one visit.

Wi-Fi and extras

A G3, G4 or G5 gateway adds remote control from anywhere. Fobs, cards and a KeySafe are optional add-ons.

The measure and quote are free, the price we give you on the day is the price you pay, and if a cheaper model does the job, we will say so.

FAQ

McGrath smart locks: common questions

Are McGrath locks a good brand?
They are a trade-grade brand: designed in Australia by a Brisbane builder who got sick of digital locks failing on site, 300,000-cycle tested (Grange 200,000), IP65–IP66 weather sealed, with stainless anti-saw bolts on the deadbolts and 2-hour fire-rated options for Firecore and E-Core doors. It is the brand locksmiths and builders trust on site.
Is there an app for McGrath locks?
Yes, the McGrath Locks App, powered by TTLock. It unlocks the door, grants temporary, timed or recurring access to family, guests, cleaners and trades, and connects to thousands of smart-home and booking-platform integrations. Add a McGrath G3, G4 or G5 Wi-Fi gateway and you can operate and monitor the lock from anywhere with internet.
Do I need Wi-Fi for a McGrath smart lock?
No. Fingerprint, PIN, fob, card and key access work with no internet at all, and your phone connects over Bluetooth when you are at the door. Wi-Fi, through a gateway, only adds remote access and monitoring when you are away.
Can you fit a McGrath lock to my existing door?
Usually, yes. Screen and security doors take the Ultra-Secua, existing deadbolts swap to the Kedron or Ashgrove, and standard doors from 35 mm thick suit the rest of the range. We confirm the model and the fit at a free measure, and we tell you straight if a door is not suitable.
Are you a McGrath installer in Melbourne?
We supply and fit the McGrath range as part of our security door work across Melbourne's northern suburbs, from Preston. We fit the lock, pair it to your phone, set up the screen-and-main-door pairing where you have one, and hand it over working.
What does a McGrath smart lock cost fitted?
It depends on the model, the door and whether you are pairing two locks, which is why we quote on site rather than over the phone. The measure and quote are free, the price we give you on the day is the price you pay, and we will tell you if a cheaper model does the job.
What happens if the battery goes flat?
The locks run on batteries and the app shows the battery level. The range includes a mechanical key override among its access types, and we confirm your model's backup access and show you the battery change at handover, so a flat battery is a nuisance, not a lockout.
How do I reset a McGrath door lock?
Call us first. Most "resets" people search for are a settings change we can talk you through in a minute, and a factory reset wipes every fingerprint and code on the lock, so it is the last resort, not the first.
Where do I find the McGrath locks manual?
The printed manual for your model comes in the box and we leave it with you at handover. McGrath's smart lock guide covers choosing, installing and using the locks, and if you have lost your manual, call us and we will point you to the right one.
What is the warranty?
McGrath give a 24-month limited warranty on the trade-grade models (Albion, Ascot, Windsor, Ultra-Secua, Hamilton, Bardon, Stafford, Kedron, Ashgrove and Grange) and 12 months on everything else, including the Smart Basic series, KeySafe and gateways. It covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. We back the installation with our own two-year cover, see our warranty page for the detail.

What our customers say

"Karl came up with a solution to install a screen door out to our balcony, where bad apartment design prevented a standard installation. He and the admin team were great to work with, and did a great job at a very reasonable price."

- Bronte H.
